Thursday 13th May - walk **** - Martlesham Church circuit – cloudy with
very light showers.
After two pretty full on windsurfing this week, sailing for the best part
of eight hours and covering 80 miles I was pleased to have a lighter wind
day today although the easterly breeze did tease for a while. Shame it was
cloudy with some very light showers, it was time to do my exercises again
before making a roll and heading out in the van with Notcutts garden centre
the destination so Mag could spend her voucher. We made a detour to
Martlesham Church where we sat in the very pretty graveyard for lunch
surrounded by many blooms including green akanet, comfrey, dandy lions,
campion as well as the trees with a variety of green leaves, cloudy but at
least the showers were staying away! We then decide to walk from here and
head down to Martlesham Creek past the impressive Martlesham Hall, a pond
with moorhen chicks in the reeds with loads of hedgerow birds flitting
about! There are two machines slowly moving across a field with six people
laying on their stomachs thinning out seedlings, probably Eastern European
away from home on low wages, you just have to admire their work ethic:) The
fields are all being worked around here as we reach the creek directly
opposite Kyson Point and with the tide very high there were even some
yachts in the creek! We take the creek path covered in dead gorse with a
kestrel hunting overhead. Past the moorings, through the lovely old woods
with bluebells and back to van. It was then over to Woodbridge, I pick up a
sail from the repair loft before heading over to the garden centre, Mag was
underwhelmed by the overpriced plants and said never again. We then took
the country lanes back to Felixstowe for our usual cuppa and cake:)
